Sweet Beginnings at Bistro Des Arts

With good weather, a waterfront location and ample opportunities for people watching, a café by the Dubai Marina sounds like a good place to spend the morning. At Bistro des Arts, all the charm of the Parisian streets comes to Dubai, with a lovely view to boot.
Located at the Address Dubai Marina, just around the corner from Marina Mall, Bistro des Arts has an aura of refined simplicity. There are the more rustic elements like handwritten signs on chalkboards and barrels used as decoration pieces inside the restaurant. On the other hand, the black and white color scheme, accented with touches of deep red, give it a more elegant aesthetic. I take a seat on the covered terrace.
The breakfast menu isn’t the most vegetarian friendly, limiting options to mainly the sweet dishes, so it doesn’t take much deliberation to get my order ready.
The lone vegetarian savory dish is Eggs Any Style with Roast Potatoes and Toast. I order mine poached and get two perfect white spheres on a plate, served alongside the other two components and a salad of fresh greens. The eggs are poached just right, with a nice runny yolk, and the potatoes, coated with herbs, are delicious.
Of course, one can’t have breakfast at a French restaurant without having a crepe! I order mine with salted caramel, though you could also opt for chocolate, strawberry jam or sliced bananas. The crepes are nice and light, and the sweet and salty notes of the caramel create a lovely roller coaster of flavor.
The last dish is another French classic, Pain Perdu. It consists of two slices of brioche drizzled with maple syrup, whipped cream, and assorted berries. The savory flavor of the brioche is nicely complemented by the sweetness of the maple and the tart berries, and a sprinkling of orange zest on top gives it a burst of freshness.
The atmosphere at Bistro Des Arts will definitely put you in the right mood to start off the day and is ideally suited for a lazy weekend afternoon. There’s a shortage of savory dishes, or even egg/dairy- free ones, but then again, there’s no harm in the occasional morning indulgence, is there?
