This summer has really been bringing the heat so far, and it’s going to stay that way for a while. Don’t sweat it, though. The summer is also a time for a colorful array of fruits and vegetables, many of which can actually lower your body temperature!

Here are some of the best fruits and veggies you can eat this summer to keep your cool:

Cucumbers: ‘Cool as a cucumber’ isn't just a catchy saying! Cucumbers have very high water content, so stay hydrated by snacking on some cucumber slices or drinking cucumber-infused water or juices.

Radishes: Aside from the occasional appearance in a salad or garnish, radishes don’t get used that much. We’re missing out, however, as these underrated roots are very hydrating and full of antioxidants!

Dark Leafy Greens: Kale, spinach and chard add a little bit of bitterness to any dish, and everyone knows they’re good for you. But did you know they’re also a good source of hydration in the summer months?

Pomegranates: There are a lot of health benefits packed into pomegranates, including heart-healthy antioxidants. Their cooling properties are likely one of the reasons they’re so popular in Middle Eastern cuisine.

Zucchinis: Like their cousins the cucumbers, zucchinis are very hydrating and quite good for you. You’ll get the most benefits from eating them raw, but enjoy them any way you like to stay cool.

Watermelons: This one’s a no-brainer. Watermelons are the ideal summer fruit, whether eaten raw or turned into juice, these watery fruits are the best way to cool down.

Peaches: With a high water content and lovely summery fragrance, peaches (and nectarines) are great for staying cool. Enjoy them as a mid-morning snack or better yet, use them to flavor a refreshing glass of iced tea!

Strawberries: Berries add a lovely tart flavor to any summer dish (or drink), but strawberries are especially hydrating.

Chili Peppers: Spicy food in the summer? That might sound crazy, but chilis and hot peppers actually lower the body’s internal temperature even as they heat up your taste buds!
