Lentil-Salad-at-Hamptons hamptons-cafe-dubai

I heard some good things about the Hampton's Cafe lately, particularly the vegetarian food, so I made it a point to suggest it for a recent lunch meet with friends.  The place is lovely - its a charming villa on Jumeirah Beach Road which has been converted into a boutique cafe inspired by the heritage and lifestyle of the Hampton's in New York.

They had recently opened their beautiful rooftop terrace, where my friends and I were sitting initially.  However since our table was in the direct sunlight (a couple of weeks ago) we decided to move downstairs.  The good news is that despite our indecisiveness, they were extremely accommodating.  So at first we were all very impressed and had high expectations for the food as well.

When we were finally settled on our table, we had a look through the individual iPad menus handed to us, a nice touch.  We ordered a couple of vegetarian dishes to share: the Grilled Butternut Squash Salad, the Mediterranean Lentil Salad and the Roasted Mediterranean Vegetables with Goat's Cheese.

The lentil salad was specifically recommended to me by a friend so I was particularly looking forward to trying that one.  I'm not sure if they were having an off day but this was thoroughly disappointing. Although the salad looked really good, the lentils were extremely undercooked, which ruined the whole dish.  We each had a couple of bites and wasted the rest.

The quiche arrived next and that wasn't particularly appetising either, it was served quite cold and the crust was just too hard.  There wasn't enough goat cheese in it, which probably would have added more flavour to the dish.  And the side salad that accompanied the dish also lacked dressing.

As we grumbled to each other about the food, we realised that they had probably forgotten about the grilled butternut squash salad, so we inquired about it, and we were right.  However instead of re-ordering it we decided to cut our losses and just go straight for the dessert, which thankfully, made up for the rest of the meal.  We ordered the sticky date pudding which consisted of a very moist date sponge cake, a delicious toffee sauce and crème Chantilly.  It was just heavenly, and I would honestly drive all the way there just for this, as every bite just melted in your mouth.

After my first meal at Hamptons, I held off on posting my review as I wanted to give it another shot for breakfast.  So I went back last weekend and ordered the Long Island French Toast.  Another definite winner.  The peanut butter spread between two pieces of french toast and the light maple syrup added to the deliciousness of the light and fluffy french toast - perfect for a post run breakfast for all you fitness enthusiasts.

I didn't get a chance to order their signature Raspberry & Rose croissant, but it looked divine on the table next to mine!

In summary, the Hamptons is a lovely quaint hangout for coffee and sweet treats.  In terms of the savoury food the veggie dishes aren't very good, but definitely a great breakfast or high-tea spot.  Loved the coffee!
