The 7 best veggie burgers in Dubai!
Burger places are really trending in Dubai lately, with a new burger concept or international franchise popping up at pretty much every corner in Dubai. There are clearly no shortage of burger joints for the meat-lovers, and the good news is, some of them have some pretty decent veggie burgers on their menus! So, due to popular demand, the VeggieBuzz team went on a mission to find some of the best veggie burgers in town.
After our fortnight of burger binging, we were able to put together this list (in no particular order) of our top veggie-burger picks for Dubai! Needless to say it wasn't the exactly the best couple of weeks for our waistlines, and we were burgered out by the end of it. Who are we kidding? We loved it!
- The Counter
This Californian build your own burger concept has a relatively healthy and wholesome Housemade Vegan Veggie patty consisting of brown rice, herbs, corn, black beans, carrots and dried cranberries. It’s a delicious tasting combination as long as you choose the right sauce. I would go with the Dijon Balsamic Dressing or the Honey Dijon. It’s easy to get carried away with toppings in a build your own burger concept, so my advice is to keep it simple. Skip the premium toppings as they just make the burger bulkier and harder to eat. But by all means, get the pretzel bun to make things interesting! While this freshly made, pan fried patty is relatively healthy, the sweet potato fries and crispy onion strings are a must order so do get them! Skip the veggie skewers - they are just plain veggies on a stick.
- Shake Shack
Shake Shack’s Shroom Burger is so good, that even meat lovers admittedly crave it! To me it’s a burger shaped cheddar cheese stick with portabella mushroom in a bun. As you bite into the burger, the cheese oozes out, so be prepared to get your hands messy! It’s a definite yes on our list, especially for the cheese lovers, but obviously not a vegan friendly option.
- Cheesecake Factory
Cheesecake Factory definitely takes the cake (pun intended) on one of the best Veggie Burgers in Dubai! The patty is made with brown rice, faro, mushrooms, black beans and onion, and is just mouthwatering! For a vegan alternative, just leave off the cheese and mayo, or better yet, order the smaller skinnylicious version, which is a more manageable size as compared to the rest of Cheesecake Factory's massive portions. I thought I would never find something that compares to the Hillstone Veggie Burger in New York (the best veggie burger on the planet), but this definitely comes close!
- Burger Fuel
Burger Fuel actually has 3 veggie burgers to choose from, however only 1 of the 3 is worth a mention. The V-Dub Vege patty consists of pumpkin, carrot, chick pea and ginger, served with melted cheddar, beetroot, salad, relish and burgerfuel’s signature aoli. Skip the aioli and cheddar for a vegan alternative. It’s deep fried so it has a nice crunch from the outside, and it’s soft, moist and delicious on the inside. People clearly love the taste of this patty as it is also available in the form of moto-bites, which are smaller bite size rounds that can be ordered with a side of yogurt relish. For a lower carb alternative, you can order the low carborator, by swapping the bun and relish for extra lettuce, tomato and onion; however the burger is still breaded and deep fried so I wouldn't exactly call this healthy.
- Gourmet Burger Kitchen
If you’re into spicy and smoky barbeque flavours, then this Classic Veggie Burger is definitely for you! The pan-fried bean patty is made with red and white kidney beans, chick peas, tomato paste and has a nice spicy kick to it. The patty is made fresh daily (rather than pre-prepared and frozen), and they make it a point to cook it separately from the meat, unlike some of the other burger chains. Overall a delicious burger, although it did taste deep-fried rather than pan-fried as alleged. GBK used to have a delicious portobello mushroom burger as well, but unfortunately it is no longer on the menu.
- Bertin Bistro
Boy do I love the Quinoa burger at the newly opened Bertin Bistro in Manara! The deliciously spiced quinoa and nut patty is roasted to perfection in the oven - it is soft and moist on the inside but has a nice crisp exterior! The sweet caramelised onions, mushrooms and coriander tomatoes add just the right amount of flavour to the house made bun. The best part is its relatively healthy without compromising on taste at all! You'll find me here regularly at lunchtime for a guilt free, delicious veggie burger!
- Burger King
I have to admit that Burger King’s Bean Royale veg burger is a guilty pleasure of mine - I always have and always will love it. It used to be my late night binge, until I shunned the idea of eating junk food that late at night. It was probably one of the first burger places in Dubai to introduce a veggie option and it’s still up there on my list. I am pretty sure it’s fried in the same oil as the meat, and I can pretty much guarantee it’s unhealthy, but I'd rather close my eyes to that and enjoy the deliciousness once in a while, and deal with the guilt later.
Other great alternatives:
Urban Bistro has a great portabella mushroom burger which you can enjoy at their uber trendy media city location overlooking the lake.
Omnia Gourmet has a fantastic Organic Quinoa slider, however it's quite small. But I would highly recommend going there and ordering 3-4 of them at a time!
